Borussia Dortmund edges past Paris St. Germain in their clash in the second leg of Champions League semi finals at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday.

Before coming onto the match, Terzic’s men had a slick advantage of a goal, which was scored by Niclas Füllkrug in the first leg of the Champions League. Before the match, Luis Enrique was forced to make 2 substitutes as Lucas Hernandez and Bradley Barcola made way for Lucas Beraldo and Goncalo Ramos. On the other hand, Dortmund used the same lineup as the one in the first leg. Multiple speculations have been saying that this might have been the last time Kylian Mbappe wearing the Parisien’s jersey in the Champion.

Match Report: As it Happened

First Half

With the sound of the first whistle by the referee, both PSG and Dortmund showed their intent in reaching Wembley. The first real chance came to the German side as at around the 12th minute, Karim Adeyemi’s shot was deflected by Lucas Berlado to avoid the threat. The Parisens soon came up with a close chance to equalize the aggregate score in the very next minute as Goncalo Ramos took an attempt to shoot from the edge of the box but failed to keep the volley on target.

At the mark of 31st minute, Luis Enrique’s men had another chance to pull off a goal, but Ousmane Dembele’s shot went off target, after a beautiful set-up by Warren Zaïre-Emery. The German side came up with a counter-attack next minute, after a wonderful run by Karim Adeyemi, but his shot pulled up a beautiful save from the Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Second Half

The commencement second half displayed the sense of urgency of the French side to level the aggregate score. Warren Zaïre-Emery came really close to putting the ball in the back of the net, but his shot hit the woodwork at the 47th minute. But things turned worse for the Parisiens as Julian Brandt’s 50th minute corner found Mats Hummels, who did not fail to score. His goal now meant that PSG had to score 2 goals within 40 minutes of regulation time to stretch the game till extra time.

Since then, a series of attacks followed by Luis Enrique’s men. At the 60th minute mark, Goncalo Ramos was provided with a sitter by Vitinha, but the Portuguese striker failed to keep the attempt on target. Soon after, Nuno Mendes tried his luck from distance, but his attempt was again stopped by the woodwork. As the match got closer to the 90 minute mark, a significant increase in the number of attacks by PSG was seen. In the 82nd minute, a wonderful set piece by Lee Kang-In was met by Marquinhos but the Brazilian international failed to keep the header on target.

Mbappe found himself at a convenient scoring position at the 87th minute, but Gregor Kobel’s touch kept the ball outside the net, striking the crossbar before going outside. Vitinha tried his luck with a volley from the corner following Mbappe’s attack, but his shot struck the frame again. Although having 70% of the ball possession and registering a total of 30 shots in the match at their home, PSG failed to score a single goal against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League semi final clash.

The only difference between the two teams was the free header of Mats Hummels. Borussia Dortmund would be now facing the winner of the other semi final clash between Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, which will take place at the Santiago Bernabeu, tomorrow, in the finals of the UEFA Champions League 2023-24.
