HP is set to elevate its OmniBook line with the introduction of the HP OmniBook Ultra, featuring the powerful new AMD Ryzen AI 300-series processor. This cutting-edge laptop, slated for release in August at $1,449.99, promises to deliver an exceptional blend of performance and functionality, positioning itself as a significant player in the AI-driven computing market.
The HP OmniBook Ultra will boast an AMD Ryzen AI 300-series processor with integrated AMD Radeon 800M graphics, providing users with up to 32GB of RAM and two 40Gbps Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports. This configuration ensures the laptop can handle demanding applications and multitasking with ease. One of the standout features of this new model is its eventual upgrade to become one of the first Copilot Plus PCs not powered by an ARM-based processor.
Originally revived in May, the OmniBook brand re-entered the market with the HP OmniBook X AI laptop. This initial model, like many Copilot Plus PCs at the time, featured an ARM-based Snapdragon X Elite processor with a neural processing unit (NPU) capable of 45 trillion operations per second (TOPS). In contrast, the new OmniBook Ultra’s AMD Ryzen AI 300 series offers an impressive “up to 55 TOPS of NPU performance,” according to HP’s press release.
The shift to the x86-based AMD Ryzen AI 300 series processor is significant, as it offers greater compatibility with a broader range of Windows applications. This advantage means fewer older applications will require emulation to run, enhancing the overall user experience and performance reliability.

Both the OmniBook X AI and the new Ultra model feature 14-inch, 2240 x 1400-pixel LCD touchscreens. However, the Ultra model includes several noteworthy upgrades. In addition to the two Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports, it features an older USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A port, a higher-resolution 9MP webcam, and quad speakers supporting DTS Ultra, enhancing both video conferencing and media consumption.
Weighing in at 3.48 pounds, the OmniBook Ultra is slightly heavier than its predecessor, the OmniBook X AI, which weighs 3 pounds. This additional weight is partly due to the Ultra’s larger 68Wh battery, compared to the X AI’s 59Wh battery. Despite the larger battery, the OmniBook Ultra offers slightly less battery life, maxing out at up to 13 hours of average use or up to 21 hours of local video playback.

Although the OmniBook Ultra will not launch as a Copilot Plus PC, HP plans to release a free update that will enable these features. The timing and availability of this update will depend on Microsoft, but once available, it will further enhance the laptop’s capabilities.
In summary, the HP OmniBook Ultra, with its AMD Ryzen AI 300-series processor, promises to be a formidable addition to the AI-driven laptop market. Its blend of power, compatibility, and advanced features positions it as a highly anticipated release for tech enthusiasts and professionals alike.
