Real Madrid thrashed Girona 4-0 on Saturday, stretching the gap at the top of the table to five points. Jude Bellingham netted twice while Vinícius Jr. and Rodrygo also scored. Girona, who had gone unbeaten in 15 league games since losing to Real Madrid in September, would have climbed to the top of the table with a win, but they remained second behind Carlo Ancelotti’s team.
Vinícius scored his seventh league goal of the season after receiving a ball from Fede Valverde. In the 36th minute, Bellingham extended their advantage with to Vinícius’ through ball and simple finish past Girona goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga.
In the 54th minute, he scored his second goal of the night by converting a loose ball in the six-yard area. Rodrygo scored the game-winning goal in the 61st minute, assisted by Vinícius, while Joselu botched a penalty in the last seconds.
First Half
After a commanding first few minutes, Girona appeared to battle back, but Vinícius Júnior scored a world-class shot from distance to give Madrid an early lead. Following that, the home team gained control. Eduardo Camavinga went down near the box and requested a penalty, but the referee rejected.
Vinícius used magic to revive play after it had been quiet. An outside of the boot pass with great weight allowed Jude Bellingham to receive the ball in the box with a lot of work to do. The Englishman, on the other hand, made it seem easy, beating the keeper with his first touch and finishing into an empty net for two goals. Halftime: 2-0 and cruising towards the league leaders.
Second Half
The second half brought more good news for Real Madrid, as they scored twice within the opening ten minutes. Vinícius Júnior shown exceptional skill in beating his opponent and aiming for the goal. The shot was saved, but it fell right into Jude’s path, where he was bound to score. Rodrygo Goes should have scored four, but he missed a routine header inside the area.
He made up for it minutes later, scoring Madrid’s fourth goal with a precise shot into the corner. Madrid continued to coast through the game without encountering anything from the visiting team, who in all honesty underwhelmed with their performance. Brahim Díaz, who came in, missed a clear opportunity to capitalise on a mistake.
Los Blancos scored their fifth penalty after Arda Güler was taken down in the box after coming on. Joselu Mato stepped up to take it, but slammed the ball into the post. Madrid won the game 4-0, increasing their lead at the top of the table to five points.
